COSTA RICA GOLDEN TOAD

Life-size. The length of the head and body is 45 mm in straight position.

It was a truly spectacular species, cause the bright orange of the males, which appeared painted with enamel. Females, though totally different in color, were also showy. It is believed they were animals who spent most of the year buried, and were only visible at breeding times.

He lived in Monteverde, in such a small area that could not stand the ecological pressure was exerted on him. Discovered in 1966, it was considered completely extinct in 2004.

All the figures and scultpures are hand made with modeling techniques and handpainted by the expert wildlife artist Galileo Ramos.
